We are delighted to announce that each month we will be hosting a Google Hangout with Paul Polak, a true pioneer in harnessing business to fight poverty.

For the past 30 years, Paul has worked with thousands of farmers in countries around the world to help design and produce low–cost, income–generating products that have already moved more than 20 million people out of poverty.

Paul is the Founder of International Development Enterprises and of Windhorse International. His mission is to inspire a revolution in how companies design, price, market and distribute products to benefit the 2.7 billion customers who live on less than $2 a day, combining radically affordable technology with radically decentralized supply chains to earn profits serving bottom billion customers.

In his recent book with Mal Warwick, The Business Solution to Poverty: Designing Products and Services for Three Billion New Customers, he offers a bold and brilliant new market-based approach to end global poverty.

Join us for the next Google Hangout with Paul at 4pm London time / 11am New York time on Thursday 3 April. Paul will be answering questions about his book. Have a question? Please email

Paul, great discussion as always. I am looking forward to reading your book. Your approach mirrors our community development model for the poorest of the poor. If we can help those furthest from the grid and change lives, we can push forward to bring an end to poverty while empowering communities. Thought I would share one of our latest stories on our LuminaNet blog. Stay well! Pam #PaulPolakLive

Could this monthly hangout be in audio-only format in the future? If so, it would be easier for those that do not have good Internet connections to join. The video is not that scintillating to watch. Thanks, Julian Peach

Hi Julian, thanks so much for your feedback. You can access lower resolution / lower bandwidth versions of the video on our YouTube channel here: - videos will be posted here immediately after each hangout. We also run online written discussions regularly, including one this Thursday on how social intrapreneurs can partner with corporate intrapreneurs:

Thanks for the idea of doing audio-only interviews - we’ll look into that. Watch this space!
